Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a metabolic byproduct of respiration in fungi (ie, fungi breath oxygen and exhaust carbon dioxide).

CO2 sensitivity[]

Although all species are sensitive to carbon dioxide throughout their lifecycle, some species react differently to varying concentrations in carbon dioxide.

Antler formation[]

Some species, such as Grifola frondosa and Ganoderma lucidum, will form antler shaped fruit bodies in increased concentrations of CO2

Elongated stems/shrunken caps[]
