Cross-section of young Earthball.

DSC 0475.jpg

This specimen of Scleroderma citrinum, or Earthball, was found on an island in Maine, September 2011. It is very young, and in the first picture you can see the purple-black spore mass clearly in the cross section. The second picture shows the specimen where it was growing.
